While I haven't found the exact track it's from, I'm about 99% certain
that the trumpet samples on Travelling the Silk Route are from Miles
Davis. The voice at 6:22 in Part II, I could already tell it was that
of Miles, and this confirms it:
http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Sessions.aspx?s=580818 (the quote,
"Can I raise this microphone?"). I got the album from my local library
that the session is on, Miles Davis & Gil Evans: The Complete Columbia
Studio Recordings, and while I heard some stuff that sounded similar
to what's on Travelling the Silk Route, I didn't find the exact
passages that were used. I also didn't have time to listen to every
track before it had to be returned. As far as the warping and time
stretching (like that cool fast part at 0:18 in Part III), I'm quite
sure that is from granular effects. The saxophone in Kool Train Riding
the Desert must use the same method.
That's what I have so far.
