I was just thinking this exact same thing the other day while listening
to Syn 2 a few times. Syn 2 is really growing on me, esp the epic track
1. Anyhow, what I noticed was that Syn 2 has quite a few moments where
NOL "noise" ebbs and flows, comes and goes. This would make sense as
Syn 2 was produced bewteen NOL2 and NOL3. But whereas NOL fails
miserably (IMHO) because it's nothing but noise/microsound, Syn 2 really
shines by incorporating the noise into the more traditional music.
Looking at the chronology, I can now spot and say the same thing about
Wired -- Hardwired had that noise influence too, and in there it really
works.
