I still buy most of my music in physical object form. I'm a sucker for
having it in my hands, seeing the artwork, smelling the booklet. For
me it's not so much the sound quality; when I do buy mp3s, I usually
get them from Bleep.com, where most of them are encoded at 320 these
days anyway (no DRM, either!), so I'm not really losing much there
(yes, I know there are those who would argue this point. It's all
good).

The stuff I do buy on mp3 is mostly 12"s that cost $5 on Bleep where
they'd cost me $10 or $11 for the actual vinyl. There are 12"s that
I'd never settle for just the mp3s. Like stuff on A.I.

But yeah, I like owning the CDs. I'd probably save a lot of money if I
could break myself of that need, but I don't think it's going to
happen anytime soon. I couldn't imagine having releases from
Raster-Noton solely in digital format. The packaging/design is always
as rewarding as the music itself!

Also, I haven't bought CDs from record stores in probably about ten
years. I've been buying online via s://kimo (now defunct), PBE (on
hiatus), EAR-Rational, Wrecked Distro in Pittsburgh (where I live),
and Forced Exposure from time to time.

So not having a store to go to hasn't been an issue for me in a long long time.

Just a few pennies.

Later,
Alan
