Oh, apologies as I didn't realize Trevor's post went
to the list as well. It's funny to see MTV Europe
mentioned, because that's exactly where I first heard
Poor Leno myself. When I was living in France last
year it seemed like they were still playing that video
several time a day. A catchy tune! here are some of
the comments I sent to Trevor earlier about the mix:
The track @9mins is actually 2 tracks. The melodic
side comes from Royksopp's "Poor Leno", which is kind
of a pop song I guess, although originally it doesn't
have that solid thumping rhythm behind it, but when
mixed with an older Chain Reaction track, the mighty
Maurizio's "M6" it inherits a more of a
percussive/dancefloor
feel, don't you think?
Check out the whole Royksopp LP, called MelodyAM:

One of the other songs on the album has the
Namlook guitar loop (namloop?) from one of the
Dark Side of the Moog albums. I think someone
mentioned this on the list sometime in the last few
months or so.. but I could be mistaken.
For the end of Poor Leno, I also extended the outro,
giving it an encore repetition but rinsed through a
lowpass filter to muffle it up. I'm partial to the
track playing @ 20mins, "Alone". The first time I
heard it, the native synths in it reminded me of that
old steve miller band intro, so I did the obvious and
added some Steve loops later on.
yes, i was sad to have to cut the next movement of
Russian Spring that night at the station. so to make
up for it, I made sure to play more of it on another
show. it opens the 2nd half of the After Ours set,
along with an exclusive Namlook soundclip, which
hasn't been posted to the
http://phonaut.podomatic.com/ page as of yet.. I'll
post an update to Faxlist once that is done.
In the meantime, UrbanAM can be downloaded at:
