I'm not sure when it started either.  My guess is PK decided to start
making it obvious on the covers for those who cared and/or perhaps to
add to the saleability and/or to reduce confusion.

For some reason I think I've seen some post-limitation-count-shown CD's
without the limitation-count on them...
