(fax) A question about "limitation"

Among many unanswered questions I've had about Fax
releases, one of them is this: why do some of the
releases state on the back sleeve what the limitation
is (i.e. an edition of 2000), while others say nothing
at all? Is there a reason for this? I was thinking
about it as I was playing "Alien Community," because
it does not say the number for that release. Sure, I
know I can look these up on the website, but I just
wondered why not all the releases tell you.
