One of my recent purchases is A New Consciousness 1, and I wonder what you people
think of it. First of all it bothers me a bit that there are only 2 of the 4 tracks
with actual music on it. But the reason I'll never regret having bought it is the
first track, 'Environment' - a true classic, one of those "goosebump"-type of tracks
that make me just think: yyeeeaaahhhh, this is why I love Fax so much :D
But the rest of the disc is a bit of a let down IMO: 'Tabletop' is made up of just
some sound effects, it's nice but it's nothing special. Next is the more
beat-oriented 'Golden Gate', which I find to be pretty dull until the nice melody
enters at 12:39, which is a bit late IMO. However it has an interesting rumbling bass
section, maybe I have the wrong sound system for this track :). And then there is the
bizarre 'Tea with Ivor Cutler', which is just strange voices for almost 14 minutes. I
don't understand a word, does anyone know what he/they are saying? It's for sure an
intersting curiosity of a track but I was disappointd as I hoped for at least a proper
piece of music to finish the album. I'm sure I will get into tracks 2,3,4 as well
some time, but that's my opinion for now. ....Oh my Gaaawd, Environment !!!:).....
Btw, this is the only Fax CD I have that has a booklet with a picture for each track
(though I think the only one that really fits is the train station (or subway?)
picture for 'Environment'). Does anyone know of any other Fax CDs with a
more-than-two-page booklet?
